When it comes to diner food, the monte cristo sandwich is king for me! There’s something about ham, turkey and swiss cheese that’s deep-fried and dusted with powdered sugar that just makes my heart sing. Really, if you deep fry about anything I’ll be a happy gal. But that sandwich is something special. It feels like a french toast disguising a ham and turkey sandwich. Maybe this sounds strange if you haven’t tasted one before but I assure you, it’s something wonderful!
Here I’ve taken the elements of that classic sandwich and created Monte Cristo Pull Apart Bread. Layers of dough, ham, turkey and swiss cheese complete with a dusting of powdered sugar and jam for dipping. Just like the sandwich but you can share it with a crowd or perhaps you just eat half the loaf and call it your lunch. True story. Once I sampled a piece, I just couldn’t help myself! It’s an irresistible loaf of bread.
