Shamrock shakes, they’ve been done. In fact, they’re probably overdone and I completely missed the bandwagon. I see them come through my Twitter feed, Facebook or Pinterest each year around this time and I always say to myself, “Hey Self! Get on it and make those sometime.” Then I get busy, forget and before I know it another year passes and I go without every making a cool, minty milkshake.
What’s so hard about making a milkshake? Not a darn thing. So I don’t know why it’s taken me this long. There’s really no excuse. This should have happened in my kitchen a long time ago and now that they have I worry that I’ve developed a small addiction. I made the classic vanilla ice cream with mint version and threw that sucker back faster than frat boys at a bar. It wasn’t too long after that I wanted to make another batch.
I went to the freezer and came to realize I only had a chocolate/vanilla mix of ice cream so I decided to give it a whirl. Yum!! I loved the addition of chocolate to these milkshakes. Really what’s not to like? Chocolate is always a welcome addition to any treat. These milkshakes are nothing fancy or over the top and now after seeing them year after year, I suppose they are a classic. They’re easy to make and a refreshing minty treat to enjoy with a little bit of chocolate added to the mix.
Vanilla and chocolate ice cream with a little mint make these milkshakes a festive treat.
- 3 cups vanilla/chocolate ice cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon mint extract
- A few drops of green food coloring, if desired
- In a blender, blend all the ingredients until smooth. Pour into glasses.
