The Weekend Whisk ~ 9/8/12

Good morning and happy Saturday! Whoo hoo!! We made it through yet another week. I know for me, this week was particularly busy. Sadly, I have nothing exciting to report today. My week was busy with the mundane task of work which sadly, led to a very light week around here and for that I apologize. I do hope to do better next week! We also enjoyed the long weekend with a little family time at my dad’s house which was so relaxing. We had a wonderful day of barbecuing and playing outside with the girls. Oh!! And this week Molly said her first word! Sure she’s been babbling up a storm but these days she says, “Dada.” We were so excited!

Then did you hear about the crazy storms we had here in New Jersey on Tuesday?

It was a little bit scary down in South Jersey complete with some very suspicious funnel type activity going on. Extreme weather scares the pants off of me. I like New Jersey because until recent years we really have always had pretty mild, even keeled weather patterns. I don’t like this one bit!

On another note, at this very moment as you read this I am likely running my 5K. Yes, the time has arrived to complete my Red Faced Runners 5K Challenge. Just a little less than 6 weeks ago, I vowed to really dive into running and challenge myself to run a 5K. So here we are and that day has arrived! As I mentioned last weekend, sadly I won’t get to participate in the buzz and excitement of an actual organized race this morning due to my parental obligations but I’m not one to cop-out on my commitments so I’ll be running the distance on my own this morning. We’ll see how I do!

Then, after I get back, shower up and recuperate a bit I’ll be off to see my little ballerina take her very first dance class! Despite Maddy’s building excitement over the last week, I have a sneaky suspicion that this first class she may be struck with shyness and it may not be all that I’m hyping it up to be but who knows, she may surprise me and really get out there today. I hope so! She twirls all over the house and honestly, in recently months she’s become more outgoing and less shy so there’s potential for her not to cling to my side all morning. I can’t wait either way!

So here’s what was going on around here this week. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! See you on Monday!

 Pumpkin Graham Muffins

Like pumpkin pie muffinized!

Slow Cooker Dulce de Leche

This was so RIDICULOUSLY good right out of the can! So easy to make too which is a plus.

And the most popular post this week was…

Basil Pots de Creme with Balsamic Strawberry Reduction

Babbles Bookmarks:

Pink Champagne Sorbet by The Messy Baker: After recently talking to Jennie about her love of champagne she reminded me that she loves champagne so much that she even made it into sorbet. She created a unique twist on the classic combination of strawberries and bubbly. This is now on my “must make” list and I just so happen to have a bottle of champagne (or 3…) in my fridge right now!

Four Layer Cake with Coconut and Almond Filling by The Moonlight Baker: I want this for my birthday! I need someone who’s an astounding baker to make this for me next month. Please! Deeply chocolate cake with coconut almond filling, cream cheese frosting, a chocolate glaze… oh! and almond crunchies too! I NEED THIS.

Chocolate Swirly Brioche Buns by The Gingered Whisk:  The name of these muffins actually say it all. They are buns swirled with chocolate and they look just sweet enough without being over the top. I will be making these for sure soon!

I can’t wait to hear about the 5k and how you did. I’m so excited for you!

Yay for champagne! I hope you like it, and don’t forget, you may get a slight buzz from it (which, in my opinion, is the best part).

I can’t wait to tell you about it!!! And yes, getting a buzz from champagne sorbet clearly is the very best part 😉
