The Weekend Whisk ~ 9/22/12

Happy first day of autumn!! Yes, it’s supposed to be 80 degrees here today but I hope somewhere it’s feeling like fall. I’ll live vicariously through all of you. On another note … Phew! Man, am I glad this week is over. How about you? How was your week? I hope it was better than ours. This week it was like we all got hit by a freight train. Well, most of us. Thanks to a germy person at work coming to work coughing and hacking all over the place. A day later I found myself with a bit of a sore throat. I blew it off as nothing. I felt fine otherwise. The next day, Maddy woke up fine and a few hours later she began with a runny nose that wouldn’t stop. Wouldn’t you know it, just a few hours after her I had the very same thing start? Then poor Molly got it the next day. What ensued was 5 days of misery! Cranky, snotty children who had trouble sleeping while I, sick myself tried to wrangle them. Somehow Mike managed to escape the germ-fest.

Thankfully I can say we’re all recuperated now and hoping to stay that way! The girls are both back to their normal, happy selves.

Before the colds set in, Maddy and I had our first “Mommy and me” day of beauty. Our day started with a trip to the salon to get our hair cut. This is actually where her nose started. Thank goodness they had an endless supply of tissues! We used a lot of them while we were there. At this point, I was merely suspecting allergies so our next stop was for pedicures! Maddy chose to go with purple, it’s her “signature color.” This was the first time she had a pedicure done by another other than me. She was beyond thrilled by the offer of a flower on her toes! It was such a nice way to spend a morning of one on one time.

Of course, this week I was also busy serving up some baked goods here this week! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Enjoy!

And the most popular post of the week was… (Thanks to it being the feature on Food Porn Daily!)

Lemon Curd Ice Cream with Lavender Whipped Cream

Babbles Bookmarks:

Black Sesame Cupcakes with Lemon Curd by Sprinkle Bakes: I am SO intrigued by these gorgeous cupcakes! Heather filled the inky grey cake with bright lemon curd. She describes the flavor of the cake as having “subtle smoky undertones of black sesame” and the lemon curd must be the perfect contrast. You need to see these!

Triple Chocolate Layer Cake by Roxana’s Home Baking: That title alone made me want to go check out this recipe but once you lay your eye’s on her pictures you’ll completely understand why I bookmarked this recipe. Three layers of decadent chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, chocolate shavings… Yes please!!

Bacon Praline from Serious EatsYou know me and my love of bacon in all things. Lately I’ve come to love bacon in sweets so this is right up my alley. Candied bacon and pecans, I want to sprinkle this over ice cream!

I love the photos! I hope you are all better – at least the girls in the pictures look awfully happy and chipper! And ooooh I want a Mommy and Me day but only have sons. And I am in the middle of arguing with one of my sons to let me go shopping with him. “You bug me and want me to try on everything!” “Well,” I answered, “It is because I don’t have a dughter!” Lucky you!

Thank you Jamie! Yes, we are all better and those pictures were taken after they were fully recuperated. Thank goodness! As for Mommy and Me days… They are oh so special and I adore them. I am in the opposite situation, having all girls and would love to have a little boy. But I love my girls more than life itself and feel blessed that I have 3 beautiful, healthy children. And I could just envision your shopping trips with your sons. Ha!
