Ahh!! I’m SO excited!! Ok, first of all… Welcome to the weekend and happy Saturday to you all! What the heck is this a picture of whirling around in my food processor, you may ask? Well it’s part of a recipe of course! But it’s unlike any recipe I’ve made before in the food processor. Hang on a second. We’ll come back to that. Let’s talk about the weekend ahead first!

Today marks the start of an incredibly fun and exciting couple of days for me. Today starts off with a small thing that is just gonna be a ton of fun. We’ll be taking Maddy to the circus for the first time and I cannot wait! Actually we should be getting on the road here in about an hour or so for a day of fun and festivities. Today even HB isn’t too cool for a day at the circus. She hasn’t been since she was a pip-squeak so she’s looking forward to it and sharing that experience with her little sis.

Blog & BakeIt will be a wonderful family day which is just the way I want to spend my Saturday because tomorrow morning I’ll be hitting the road bright and early to travel to Vermont!! Remember I was telling you about King Arthur Flour Blog & Bake? Well the time has finally arrived!! In case you can’t tell by my overuse of exclamation points in this post, I’m more than a little excited. (!!!! Just for good measure)

I’ll be spending 3 days at King Arthur Flour’s Baking Education Center meeting new people, baking, snapping pictures like a fiend and just being in my glory. I’m sure I’ll be bombarding you all with updates about the experience every step of the way via Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Google+ so get ready to see a whole lot of me in your timelines 😉 I don’t quite think I’ve been this excited for something is a while. Ahh!! Ok, deep breath.

Maddy's First Game 1

In other news, Maddy played her first soccer game last weekend. We were a little skeptical that she would even get on the field. She’s had 3 practices prior to the first game and each time she didn’t go willingly on the field. Both Mike and I spent our fair share of time running laps with a bunch of 3-year-olds. But each time after a few minutes she warmed up and then practiced with here team.

Maddy's First Game 2

Come game day I gave her a rousing pep talk on the drive over to the fields. When it came time for the big moment she went right out! This child did nothing but run and run and run for nearly an hour with a gigantic smile on her face. Oh, she was completely oblivious to the fact that there was a ball on the field and had no clue how to actually play the game but boy, she had a blast just chasing the other kids. Note the little swarm of children yet no ball in site in this picture. And she may or may not be giving that other little boy a hip-check. Perhaps there needs to be a conversation. She did get her feet on the ball twice and did kick it so it was a huge success. She didn’t want to the game to be over!

Me Sippin' My Greens

Oh so much to tell you all this week. Do you need to stop? Grab another cup of coffee? Bathroom break perhaps? Now’s the time. Okay, onward! We’re nearing the end of the 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge. Only 10 more days to go! I’m still loving them and seriously addicted. I feel like I have more energy and just feel incredibly healthy. Maybe it’s all mental. Whatever the case may be, I’m loving my green smoothies! This week I started incorporating more healthy fats. My favorite combination this week was spinach, coconut water, avocado and frozen pineapple. Holy moly that stuff was GOOD!! It’s supposed to be wonderful for your skin. I just like the way it tasted. Even Molly who ordinarily doesn’t care for pineapple, sucked it right down.

This week Murphy continues to grow in leaps and bounds. He doesn’t go back to the doctor for a while and I’m so curious how much he weighs now. He’ll stand on a step stool to look out a window but he won’t stand on a scale. Just kidding. I didn’t try to make him stand on a scale. Really.

Murphy Likes Step Stools

And now what IS that pink stuff in the food processor ALL THE WAY back up at the top of the page?? This week, in case you didn’t see it on my Instagram or Facebook, I made DIY Laundry Detergent this week!! Seriously. This stuff is awesome! You know I’m definitely into saving a buck where I can. Soooo … let’s break it down for ya. I usually buy liquid name brand detergent for which I pay around $16 for the big 100mL jug of the stuff. I have a household of 5 with 2 small children (and a husband) who tend to go through 2 outfits a day due to various messes. So you can pretty much bet I’m doing at least one load of laundry most days. A big jug of detergent lasts us about 3-4 weeks if I carefully measure out the exact amount you’re supposed to you. I do. Most of the time.

So this DIY detergent, it contains 5 ingredients for which I paid $22.83. I also bought Downy Unstoppables to try like the original post said since she made them sound so incredibly wonderful. They were a splurge at $5.07 but still, all ingredients for this laundry detergent cost me only $27.90. You’re only using a tablespoon of the detergent per load. Do you know how long this is going to last me?!? The original post speculates about a year and I believe it.

DIY Laundry Detergent

So let’s figure out the savings. When I did the math I came to find out that I spend about $256 a year on laundry detergent. So drumroll please! …I just saved over $228.00 by taking 15 minutes out of my day to make my own laundry detergent. Oh and most importantly, it works great!! I love it and my clothes smell unbelievably fresh and clean. You should definitely check this out and maybe give making your own a try too! It’s so quick and easy to do and I can think of a bunch of other things I’d like to do with over $200 bucks.

Well, if you’ve made it this far 😉 I hope you have a fabulous weekend!! I can’t wait to come back and tell you all about Blog & Bake. In the meantime, as always you’ll find a recap of what you may have missed this week.

Enjoy!

That detergent is awesome! And Blog & Bake was phenomenal. Now I just have to get through the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of pictures so I can tell everyone about it 🙂 I have no idea how I’m whittling them all down to just a few. So challenging!

What a super busy week it’s been! Not only are you saving a lot of money making your own laundry detergent, but it’s really pretty, too. (I know, that doesn’t matter, but it had to be said!) Have fun at Blog & Bake!

I seriously want to make my own detergent now! That’s so cool. lol. Why is yours pink?

It was a great experience Charissa! I love the stuff. It does a great job and if you also buy those Downy Unstoppables your laundry will smell incredible! Oh and it’s pink because the Zote Bars I bought were pink but they also make them white if you’d prefer an all white detergent. But I loved that it turned pink!
