The Weekend Whisk – 3/8/14

Scarf Selfie

Happy Saturday! Here in my neck of the woods we’ve been busy wishing for spring. According to the weatherman, we should have had the last of our REALLY cold, subzero temps. One can only hope.

Maddy and Molly are already rocking’ their bathing suits on a near daily basis while playing around the house. I’m all about the power of positive thinking and I like the way they think. While they’re busy hanging out in bathing suits, I had to break out my scarf once again as we plummeted into the teens.

I realized dreary winter days are better with colorful fun tights. So much better than the boring black ones I’ve been sporting all winter. Pink tights just make me happy. Soon enough we’ll all be complaining about the sweltering heat so I guess we just better embrace the seasons no matter what dramatic weather and temperatures they may bring.

Tangerine EOS Lip Balm

This week I discovered Tangerine Eos lip balm. Love!! I’m really late to the party here because HB has been using all their flavors for a long time now. I picked one up on a whim. I’m smitten.

Chipotle Chili Dark Chocolate Bar

I also encountered my new favorite candy bar. You know I’m a big fan chocolate and spice. Sriracha Fudgesicles have happened in my kitchen countless times now. So have Double Chocolate Cayenne Cookies. There’s just something wonderful about deep dark chocolate and an underlying hint of spiciness. So when I stumbled upon this chocolate bar, I was in love.

Le Creuset French OvenI was SO excited yesterday to receive my new Le Creuset French Oven. Isn’t that blue spectacular?!? My old French oven is discolored, chipped, had a handle that keeps falling off and has just seen better days. I used it multiple times per week in the winter to slow cook any variety of dinners. Then I discovered the if you bake a loaf of bread in a covered French oven you will get the BEST CRUST EVER! Truly. Try it. It’s awesome. So needless to say, after that realization my pot gets used almost daily and sometimes more than once. So I decided to treat myself to a new one. I’ll be breaking it in this morning with a nice crusty loaf of bread to go with our dinner.

Kerrygold Aged Cheddar Cheese with Irish Whiskey

This week I also made a new cheese discovery. I thought I’d tried all things Kerrygold but this week I came upon a new-to-me cheddar and I was SO excited! Yes, cheese excites me. This Aged Cheddar with IrishWhiskey may very well be my new favorite after the Reserve Cheddar. It’s definitely fantastic!

Last but not least, this week I got to eat an incredibly scrumptious cupcake. So what’s so special about eating a cupcake? It was a cupcake from Carlo’s Bake Shop. Perhaps you’ve heard of this little ol’ bakery on a obscure show (insert sarcastic tone here) called Cake Boss? One of the great things about living in New Jersey is Carlo’s Bake Shop but despite being a Jersey resident I’d never visited! They have multiple locations across our fair state and most are relatively close to me but then they really tempted me by opening a location REALLY near my home so it was high time I went in for a nibble.

Carlo's Bake Shop CupcakesI was getting my hair done on Thursday and my salon just happens to be about 3 blocks from Carlo’s, so off I went! I brought my coworkers an assortment of cupcakes since I was headed into work after my hair appointment. I laid eyes on their Lucky Charms cupcake and how could I NOT give those a try? I was so intrigued. It was a vanilla cupcake topped with marshmallow frosting rolled in Lucky Charms cereal and it rocked! So if you ever have the opportunity to try any of the Cake Boss’s creations, definitely give them a try. Yowza! I can’t wait to go try more things.

Hope you’ve had a fantastic week and have a fun, relaxing weekend ahead. As always, you’ll find a recap of what’s been going on around here in case you’ve missed anything.

Those girls are so cute in their bathing suits. I’m with them, can’t wait for spring!! Never been to cake boss’s bakery but then I don’t live in Jersey, they all look so good!

That is my most favorite Kerrygold cheese of all. <3 I could eat it year-round, but sadly it's not available here year-round. 🙁 Enjoy it!

Love your girls' power of positive thinking! Hope it works!

This is the first time I’ve ever seen it so maybe it’s only seasonal here as well. So happy to have discovered it though!

The girls have the right mindset – I hope spring is around the corner soon because this snow stuff – ugh! The LC is GORGEOUS! I have never tried the bread baked in a dutch oven – I really need to get on it.

Oh my goodness, bread in a dutch oven is the best! You get the most wonderful crust. It’s my favorite way to make bread these days. So easy!
