The Weekend Whisk – 12/07/13

by Kate on December 7, 2013

Happy Saturday!! Talk about craziness. It’s been busy busy busy around here the last two weeks! And the craziness has just continued right up until now which is nearly 11pm on Friday night as I write this while I have a bit of downtime from saving lives. It’s been a crazy night in the big city but people have paused on calling 911 finally for the first time this evening so I’ll take this opportunity to show you my last two weeks. Yes, I have pictures! And lots of them.

First, there was my trek to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to enjoy Mixed, a food conference. The views as I drove were stunning. Mountainous landscapes …

Early morning fog as I drove thousands of feet up the mountain.

It was held at Mountain Lake Lodge whose claim to fame is that is was where Dirty Dancing was filmed back in the 80’s.

Mountain Lake Lodge

Talk about cool! I loved walking around the resort and being able to see scenes from the movie.

Baby's Family Cottage

The cottage where Baby’s family stayed.

The Gazebo

The gazebo where dance lessons were taught.

Food Babbles & Jelly Toast

Oh and let’s not forget the dance studio where Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey practiced. This picture of myself with one of my favorite bloggy peeps EVER, Emily of Jelly Toast was taken in that very spot which is actually an old barn.

Mountain Lake Lodge

I fell in love with these amazing light fixtures. And I loved getting to finally meet Emily face-to-face. How adorable is she?!? And such a warm, sweet, funny gal! I felt an immediate connection with her and truly enjoyed out time together. She was one of the biggest highlights of my weekend.

Mountain Lake Lodge

The grounds were gorgeous as well and I truly enjoyed walking around, taking it all in.

Mountain Lake Lodge

I learned an immense amount as well. Somethings were about the technical aspects of blogging and running a website while other parts were nothing but fun like decorating cakes!

We spent time in the Dixie Crystals Sugar Suite making homemade scrubs from sugar, essential oils and more.

Dixie Sugar Suite

My favorite was the Chocolate Sugar Lip Scrub. Scrumptious!

After an incredible weekend of learning and meeting so many amazing people that I’ve known over the years but never met as well as making new friends, it was time to go home. It was an amazing experience that I have a feeling I’ll be doing again next year.

Ava RoseOn a more personal note, our family welcomed it’s newest member. My niece, Ava Rose. My brother is now a father and completely, deeply in love with this little girl. I love seeing him in this new role and cannot wait to get to know this little girl. Our family has been so very blessed.

Wow, up until today I thought that Dirty Dancing was filmed in the Catskills. What a beautiful lodge and it looks like it was so much fun.
Adorable baby, congrats to your brother!

Dude. You should know better than to put an incredibly sweet photo of a father and baby at the end of a post and expect us to remember anything but the father and baby. That small smile on his face is so wonderful it made my heart hurt. You can feel the love oozing out of him.

Oh yeah, the conference looked fun. 🙂

Aww, I know right?? I love seeing this. He’s always wanted children and I’m so happy for them. He’s already so in love with her and just melts every time she makes a peep 🙂
