Strawberry Caipirinha with Mint

Strawberry Caipirinha with Mint -

Every September in a neighboring town there’s a huge Brazil Day celebration. It’s filled with incredible music, food and of course, drinks! The first year I went to Brazil Day was the very first time I tasted a caipirinha cocktail. If you haven’t ever had one, you really should! It’s amazing. Lime and sugar are muddled with cachaça.

I love Brazilian foods and cocktails so when I had the opportunity to review the cookbook, Churrasco: Grilling The Brazilian Way by Evandro Caregnato I knew this was going to be amazing. This beautifully photographed cookbook had me drooling as soon as I started leafing through it. Each recipe sounded and looked more outstanding than the next.

Strawberry Caipirinha -

With step by step instructions on how to build your own authentic bbq, this cookbook will set you up for Brazilian grilling success. Or you can just fire up your grill or oven and this books shows you how to create authentic flavors right at home. Fire-Roasted Picanha needs nothing more than a sprinkling of salt and the flames of a grill to create perfection.

The presentation of Whole Tainha Baked on a Roof Tile is dramatic and enticing, representative of true Brazilian grilling. Each recipe in this cookbook is simple and rustic, leaving you free to entertain or just relax as your meal is prepared.

During your relaxation, you should most definitely sip on this Strawberry Caipirinha with Mint. Like the classic caipirinha, it has sugar syrup and cachaça but this summery spin welcomes sweet, ripe strawberries muddled with mint. Sweet, refreshing and perfect for sipping grill-side.

Today, I’m giving away one copy of Churrasco: Grilling The Brazilian Way to one lucky reader! Simply use the Rafflecopter form below to enter for your chance to win. Good luck!

Yield: 1 servings

Strawberry Caipirinha with Mint

This summery version of a classic caipirinha cocktail is sweet and refreshing. Perfect for sipping on a hot summer day!

    For Simple Syrup:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • For Cocktail:
  • 4 medium very ripe strawberries, sliced
  • 2-3 mint leaves
  • 1 fluid ounce (30 ml) simple syrup
  • 2 fluid ounces (60 ml) cachaça
  • Ice cubes

    Make Simple Syrup:
  1. In a small pot, bring the sugar and water to a boil. When the water begins to simmer, mix the sugar with a spoon for about 30 seconds then let it cook for another 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat and transfer syrup to a heatproof container. Let the syrup cool, then place the container in the refrigerator. The simple syrup can be refrigerated for up to 2 months and used to make about 15 caipirinhas.
  2. Make Caipirinha:
  3. Place the strawberries and mint leaves in a short glass and crush with a muddler. Add the simple syrup and cachaça and stir. Fill the rest of the glass with ice cubes and stir.
