I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am just ALL about salty sweet combinations! These Salted Caramel Pretzel Blondies fit the sweet and salty bill all the way. Ooey, gooey, caramel goodness with a salty crunch thanks to the addition of pretzel bits. Together, these blondies make a perfect sweet afternoon treat or dessert.

Elizabeth, the genius behind the blog Food Ramblings was my Secret Recipe Club assignment for this month. I loved looking around her site! She creates healthy recipes as well as taking recipes that are normally pretty bad for you and transforming them into tasty healthier versions of themselves. Every now and then she throws some decadence in there that just needs to be kept full octane.

As always though, before I came across these drool worthy bars I had a very difficult time narrowing things down. At first I was going savory with Beer Mac & Cheese. That sounds just crazy good! Then I was leaning towards her Savory Sausage Squares.

Then, as it so often does, my sweet tooth kicked in. I was pondering Apple Pumpkin Pie because well, the season of pumpkin EVERYTHING is upon us! Then I saw Nutella Swirled Blondies and since I was still thinking about that pumpkin pie I was about to make those and swirl some pumpkin into them. Gah!! Pumpkin and Nutella?!? I am still going to make those. But that’s when I saw these blondies. It was love at first site. It was meant to be. I had found my match. Now, go whip up a batch. Salty, sweet … What’s not to love?

The salty sweet combo in the bars sounds amazing! It’s rainy here today and I’m thinking I could use these in my life…

I did a strawberry pretzel salad (?) a couple of months ago…and came to appreciate the value of pretzel in sweet dishes; that crunchy, salty touch adds so much! Combined with some salted caramel? Oh my.

There is something about caramel and pretzels that just goes together. Putting them in blondies sounds even better!

Mmm… yes! I love pretzels and caramel together. It’s a new love after making a salted caramel tart with a pretzel pieces on top. SO good!

I love contrasts. Sweet and salty is a really good one too. I’ll have to put this one on my must-bake list!

It’s always wonderful when two contracting flavors come together in such a wonderful way. Thanks Dionne!

Okay random question for you… Is the brown sugar packed in or just measured? This recipe sounds amazing and I hate to mess it up. Thanks!

Kate October 9, 2013 at 1:22 pm

Good question! Ack… How did I forget to specify? Thanks for asking. It’s packed. Hope you enjoy them!
