When it comes to holidays, I’m a big fan of the family brunch. I almost love brunch more than a big holiday supper. I think it’s the melding of the morning meal with afternoon fare. When I plan a brunch I always like to have a fruit salad, perhaps some muffins or a strata and then if we’re feeling particularly festive I love to serve a cocktail of some sort. Nothing crazy here folks, it is still barely even lunchtime but I think a nice citrus cocktail is always a pleasant addition to a brunch. This Prosecco lemon cocktail would be the perfect festive libation for a brunch!

The crisp, sweet Prosecco melds with the tart lemon sorbet creating a cocktail that would be a beautiful addition to any celebration or for enjoying on the deck on a warm summer night. This lemon cocktail’s proper name is Sgroppino and until I recently had the opportunity to take a peek at the Family Italian Cookbook: 185 Trattoria Favorites to Bring Everyone Together from Good Housekeeping,  I had never tried this combination before.


I was so happy when this lovely cookbook arrived on my doorstep. Being a cookbook lover, I was thrilled as I started to thumb through. Each recipe is beautifully photographed making me want to devour each page. It’s not often that I can say I want to cook a whole book but this cookbook mastered the art of making each recipe more appealing than the last.

With recipes like Spaghetti with Pesto Verde and Sweet Pea Risotto, this cookbook bursts with recipes that are filled with fresh ingredients. Each recipe is uncomplicated, easy to make and delivers dinner to your table with flavor and flair. This cookbook had everything from fuss-free meals to recipes that required a little more time but were still easy to prepare. There are plenty of salads, appetizers , pastas, pizzas, and my favorite section of all, desserts.

When it came time to pick a recipe to try for myself I was drawn to the  Sgroppino Sorbet with Prosecco and Mint. It sounded refreshing and the intriguing combination of flavors drew me right in. Once made, this lemon cocktail didn’t disappoint and the rest of the cookbook has become a resource for preparing our everyday meals as well as dinners meant to impress. Yield: 6 servings

Prosecco Lemon Float

Prosecco and lemon sorbet make a bright cocktail perfect for every celebration or get together.


  • 1 pint lemon sorbet
  • 2 cups Prosecco
  • Fresh mint sprigs for garnish


  1. Evenly divide the sorbet among 6 wine glasses. Pour 1/3 cup Prosecco over sorbet and garnish with mint sprigs. Serve immediately.

2) My favorite thing I enjoy making for dinner is Penne all Vodka from Barefoot Contessa’s full-proof cookbook. I’m usually very intimidated by her recipes, but this dish looked approachable. Sure enough, it is an absolute favorite at my apartment. My bf constantly requests it! Would love this cookbook because we are also huge fans of Italian food. Thanks!

Looks so refreshing! I was just thinking about how I used to love making a mango chicken stir-fry dish — inspired by a dish at a Malaysian restaurant. This would be perfect after that meal.

I don’t think I’ve ever had prosecco. Sounds delicious though… I’m enticed just by looking at those elegant shots you’ve taken! Yummo. And yay for Good Housekeeping cookbooks, my mother had a couple that she bought when she was a young woman; they’ve now become part of my own collection. Very good books, too! Lovely post x

I drink quite a bit of Prosecco and enjoy all types of cocktails made with it from Northern Italian Spritz and those made with St. Germain Elderflower liquor. You mention the sweetness of the Prosecco. I generally use Brut and it is quite dry. So your readers might want to consider using Extra Dry if they would enjoy a sweeter sparkler. Although, with the Sorbet, perhaps it won’t really matter. I plan to try it with my Brut Prosecco. I am sure it will be great!

Would love love love this book! My favorite thing to cook is my mothers sauce. Yes we are irish but she made the BEST sauce and i started cooking with her when i was 5.
