I tend to look forward to the holidays very much for the holiday parties and the food that comes with it, the family gatherings with wonderful food we gather around, giving gifts to others which many times happen to be food! Are you sensing a familiar theme here? It’s true though. The holidays bring us all together and those gatherings tend to center around food. I love entertaining just as much as I love attending parties. When I have guests I always have plenty of things to nosh on as we chat and catch up.

A batch of Spiced Candied Walnuts make for a sweet and spicy snack as people mingle. These also make a wonderful homemade gift! Package them in a cute mason jar with festive ribbon for an edible gift your family and friends will love receiving. For our gatherings I also like to have a cheeseboard. A variety of meats, cheeses and crackers never last long.

I always feel like a good cheeseboard should be a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. I add a variety of cheeses with different textures and flavors. A variety of meats like hard salami or prosciutto are a wonderful addition as well. Always a fan of fruit and cheese together, pears, figs, or cranberries add a sweetness to your assortment. I also like to display them on a beautiful piece of slate.

This year I added some other interesting things to my yearly cheeseboard. I recently had the opportunity to try Honey Ridge Farms Spiced Honey Creme. This creamed raw honey has touches of cinnamon, nutmeg and other warm spices. It pairs nicely with apples, figs and pears and was a wonderful complement to Kerrygold Dubliner as well as tangy Chèvre.

This year I’ve also been adding wild hibiscus flowers to my board. Talk about a show stopper! Everyone has been so intrigued by these beautiful little gems. These edible candied flowers are sweet with a lovely floral taste. I filled them with smooth, creamy goat cheese for an appetizer that’s unique and special. But that’s not all you can do with these little beauties. What’s a great holiday party without a spectacular cocktail to go with it?

These Wild Hibiscus Flowers in Rose Syrup make the perfect showpiece for my Hibiscus Rose Margarita. The classic combination of tequila and lime juice is joined by the beautiful rose syrup to form a cocktail that demands to be ooo’ed and ahh’ed over. A single Wild Hibiscus Flower is seated in the bottom of the glass making a spectacular edible garnish once the margarita is gone. I rimmed this special margarita with Wild Hibiscus Flower Company’s new Pyramid Salt Flakes. They’re a blend of dried, ground hibiscus flowers and Australian pyramid salt flakes. I’ve also loved using this salt for finishing so many of my homemade meals.

Oooh I love this! I once had a glass of prosecco with a hibiscus flower and thought it was amazing! So different. I love that I can make this at home and will definitely try this recipe. Would be great for Valentines day also! Thanks!
