There’s nothing better than bread fresh out of the oven. Sometimes that bread is a labor of love. Kneading the dough together. Letting it rest for several hours. Shaping the dough. Letting it rest once more. Then baking it to a lovely golden crust. Don’t get me wrong, that all day process is well worth the wait. But sometimes you want bread to go along with dinner and don’t have all day to make that happen. Enter this herbed buttermilk bread.

It’s a quick bread! The name alone tells you this bread is gonna be easy and be done in no time. One bowl, no fuss, no muss and bread is born. Love it! I’ve always loved quick breads because of their ease of preparation but also because they’re really a blank canvas for whatever you’d like to put in them. I’ve almost always gone sweet with quick breads like Classic Banana Bread or Chocolate Walnut Cranberry Pear Tea Bread. But I think my favorite quick bread of all time was my Rocky Road Bread. Ahh!! That quick bread is filled with chocolate chips, almonds and marshmallows. What’s not to love about marshmallows in your bread?

But you see what I mean? All sweet. So I thought it was high time to venture into the savory side of quick breads. I love buttermilk and the gentle tang in lends to everything it encounters so adding it to this bread was a no-brainer for me. Three different cheeses mingle in that buttermilk batter and are accented by fragrant thyme and a sprinkling of sea salt.  Toss all this together and in about an hour you’ll have bread to go along with your supper! With spring finally sprung, my dinner menus have been leaning more towards lighter fare and springtime meals. This bread is perfect alongside a light spring Sunday supper. Really tasty loaf, this can be whipped up quickly and I’m all about that. Cheese and buttermilk and herbs what a delicious combination.

I love the texture buttermilk gives to baking, and this looks like a perfect soup accompaniment! Gorgeous, Kate!
