I love getting packages in the mail. I practically do all my shopping online. Partially because of the convenience factor. The moment that I think to myself, “Hey, I need to buy myself an armband to hold my iPhone when I run” I can simply pull up my Amazon app and viola! Seconds later, it’s coming to me and I didn’t have to set foot in a store, wait in a line or deal with annoying people. The second reason is, I just love getting things in the mail! It’s just fun, tearing into a box to discover the contents within.

Today I have something new for you. Drum roll please… Foodie Penpals!! What is Foodie Penpals you may ask? Pull up a chair, let’s chat. Around the blogosphere I’ve seen people posting about their participation in this monthly project. I’ve been meaning to check it out but figured with all my other monthly projects, I really wouldn’t have time for another but this month I couldn’t resist the temptation of the pleasure of giving and receiving any longer.

Each month I will be paired with someone who I will purchase a few hand-picked goodies for. I will package it all up, include a little note to my penpal and ship it out for them to feast their eyes (and mouths) on. On the flip side, each month someone will get my name and I, in turn will also received a box of wonderful treasures.

This month I was sent a box from the lovely Michelle of Esculent Dreams. She has a very interesting story about her food journey. Michelle is on a mission to eat healthy, put good things into her body and help her body to work to the best of its ability. She has a gorgeous blog with captivating writing and healthy, flavorful recipes. My favorite thing on her site so far are all her oatmeal recipes, especially the one with Chia seeds. I’ve only recently discovered Chia seeds and love them!

Now, let’s get down the really good stuff, the box! Michelle had very limited information about me since we’ve just been introduced but she nailed it! She sent me so many great goodies. It was a perfectly balanced box. A great mix of both healthy treats as well as a few sweet indulgences, since obviously we all know I have quite the sweet tooth.

Michelle sent these rice and nut crackers that I’ve never even seen before. They were so interesting and so good! Crisp, tasty and perfect with the Justin’s Almond Butter she sent. I’m familiar with Justin’s nut butters and love them so I was thrilled to see a big jar of the almond butter. This will be great on apples too! That’s my favorite was to eat it.

Next Michelle sent me a Larabar which tasted so much like apple pie that you forget that you’re eating something healthy. I split this with Maddy. I was lucky to get half of it cause she was gobbling it up! Michelle also sent a Kind Bar. I see these all the time when I go to Starbucks and keep meaning to try them. So glad Michelle gave me the opportunity to because they are fantastic! Almonds and coconut together are snack heaven for me.

Next we tried these Stacey’s Pita Crisps. I love these pita crisps but I hadn’t yet tried the thyme flavored ones so this was a great treat. It went so well with our lunch the other day. Yum!

Then there were Pim’s raspberry cookies. These were soft little cookies topped with a little crisp circle of chocolate. When you bite into them you find that in between those two lovely layers is a thin layer of raspberry jam. So good!! Michelle wrote to me that before she started eating healthier she would go through a box of these in 2 days. I can totally understand how that could happen. Mine lasted only 3 days.

There was also a lovely bar of dark chocolate and that’s all I have to say about that. Michelle puts it perfectly…

Last but certainly not least were these three little baggies. This was my favorite thing in the box. Michelle sent me the basic ingredients to make some of her oatmeal! This was the perfect thing to find inside my Foodie Penpals box because now I would make some of her lovely oatmeal variations. I made Michelle’s “Go-To” Oatmeal Variation and it was awesome! What a satisfying, belly filling breakfast.

Michelle, thank you so very much for all your thoughtful gifts. I adored each and every one!

This month, I sent a little box of wonderful to Brande over at The Adventures of Nubby Tongue, if you care to take a gander. She is beyond sweet! Since initially contacting her to learn a bit about her we’ve exchanged several emails and chatted a bit. What to talk about nice? Brande even sent me a little thank you gift for sending her box of goodies! Brande seems like such a wonderful person. In my first month with Foodie Penpals I’ve met two fabulous women and I look forward to making many new friends month after month.

Want to join in?

Here’s some info on Foodie Penpals.  The best part? You don’t need to be a blogger to participate! Anyone can participate. Now come on, who doesn’t want to get a nifty little box of their own from one of us? Here’s the deal…

  • On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
  • You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
  • The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
  • You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
  • Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
  • Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

Ah, you’re too sweet! I had a great time chatting with you and THANK YOU so much for my excellent goodie box! I’m sorry my photography doesn’t do it justice. (The lighting was bad! The lens was foggy! There was a small earthquake occurring while the shutter closed!)
