Double Whiskey Cheese Burger -

Ah, the humble cheeseburger. It’s a summer staple, a backyard barbecue king and a food that has endless flavor possibilities. It’s a blank slate ready for filling, topping, slathering and seasoning. This Double Whiskey Cheeseburger is a flavor powerhouse. Juicy beef with roasted garlic and of course, whiskey is filled with Kerrygold Dubliner cheese then topped with sautéed mushrooms, onions and crazy good whiskey barbecue sauce.

Not only did I double the whiskey factor with this cheeseburger recipe, I also doubled the cheese factor. Bite into this flavorful burger and you’ll find warm, melted cheese inside. Have you tried Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese Wedges? I’m all about these smooth, creamy little cheese wedges. I’m spreading them on crackers, on apples and on the roll of this burger. This juicy, cheese-filled, whiskey-kissed burger is absolutely mouth-watering, off the hook, messy, tasty and need to be in your life ASAP.

Double Whiskey Cheeseburger

Juicy whiskey cheeseburgers topped with sautéed onions, mushrooms and whiskey barbecue sauce.

    For Whiskey Barbecue Sauce:
  • 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1 cup whiskey
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • For Burger:
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 1/4 cup whiskey
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Kerrygold Unsalted Butter, melted
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 slices Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese
  • Toppings:
  • 1 tablespoon Kerrygold Unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced
  • 4 Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese Wedges
  • 4 rolls
  • Lettuce leaves, optional
  • Tomato slices, optional

    Make The Whiskey Barbecue Sauce:
  1. In a medium saucepan, stir together all ingredients and place over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer. Simmer 30 minutes. Remove onion slices and garlic cloves. Discard. Allow barbecue sauce to cool. Store in an airtight jar and refrigerate.
  2. Make Burgers:
  3. In a large bowl, work together ground beef, onion, whiskey, Worcestershire sauce, butter, garlic, salt and pepper. Divide meat into 4 even portions.
  4. Take one portion and split it in half. Form into a disk and place one Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese Slices in center. Top with remaining portion of meat and form a disk that is sealed around the cheese. Repeat with remaining ground beef mixture.
  5. Heat grill to medium heat. Cook to desired doneness, flipping once during cooking time.
  6. While burgers cook, melt 1 tablespoon Kerrygold Unsalted Butter in medium skillet over medium heat and sauté mushrooms, onion slices and garlic clove until softened and caramelized.
  7. Spread the tops of 4 sliced hamburger buns with 1 Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese Wedge each. Place finished burger on bun and top with sautéed mushrooms and onions.
