Apple season is officially upon us! Autumn is my favorite season. Cool, crisp days filled with crunchy, vibrant leaves and crackling fires. Apple picking is one of my favorite autumn activities. I love making apple desserts, mulled apple cider and even apple cider doughnuts. There are no shortage of apple recipes around here!

These Apple Fig Gorgonzola Turnovers are a fine addition to that category! Flaky puff pastry is filled with a dollop of fig jam, fresh apples and a few crumbles of gorgonzola cheese. You can make this easy Fig Jam to pair with the apples and cheese in these turnovers or use your favorite store-bought fig preserves.

Apple Fig Gorgonzola Turnovers

Flaky pastry filled with apples, fig jam and gorgonzola cheese to make an easy appetizer recipe or dessert recipe that's a perfect balance of sweet and savory.


  • 1 box (2 sheets) frozen puff pasty, thawed
  • 1 cup finely diced peeled apples
  • 3 tablespoons gorgonzola cheese
  • 3 tablespoons fig jam
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon water
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • freshly ground black pepper


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Unfold one sheet of puff pastry. Cut into 9 equal squares. Repeat with second sheet of puff pastry. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, gently toss together apples, gorgonzola cheese and fig jam.
  4. In the center of each square, place a dollop of apple mixture (1-2 teaspoons.)
  5. Fold each square over to form a triangle. Seal edges by pressing seam with tines of a fork.
  6. Brush each triangle with egg wash. Sprinkle with some sliced almonds and a grind of black pepper. Place on prepared baking sheets.
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or room temperature.
