There are few things in life more simple and perfect than the humble grilled cheese sandwich. Crisp, golden bread sandwiching scrumptious, melty cheese and with those two ingredients alone this humble sandwich is already something special. When I was invited to participate in Kitchen PLAY‘s “30 Days of Grilled Cheese” event, I jumped at the opportunity!

I have a love affair with the grilled cheese sandwich and all it has to offer. The grilled cheese is a blank canvas for any number of ingredients. Are you a minimalist? Keep it simple with good ol’ Land O Lakes® Deli American Cheese. As a mother, I love this cheese because it’s versatile for all kinds of dishes, tastes great and my girls love it!  It’s smooth and delicious, with a melt-in-your-mouth creaminess that makes it the perfect cheese to have on hand when making a classic grilled cheese sandwich to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Month this month.

If you want to jazz your grilled cheese up just a little bit, add crisp, fresh lettuce or perhaps a few strips of bacon. Want to get fancy? The addition of sweet, caramelized onions to your grilled cheese, seasoned sautéed mushrooms or perhaps pesto gives a sophisticated flair. Your grilled cheese sandwich can be anything you desire and your only limitation is your culinary imagination.

Of all the endless cheesy sandwich possibilities my very favorite addition is Land O Lakes® 4 Cheese Italian Blend because it’s the best combination of the most flavorful Italian cheeses – Asiago, Parmesan and Romano – blended with the creamy goodness of Land O Lakes® Deli American Cheese. I love this creamy cheese as a simple snack with the crunch of a good cracker, in my favorite 4 Cheese Spinach & Artichoke Dip but by far my favorite way to enjoy it is as part of a warm, creamy grilled cheese sandwich.

My perfect grilled cheese sandwich is thinly sliced sourdough bread paired with Land O Lakes® 4 Cheese Italian Blend, a juicy ripe tomato, fresh basil and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. The creamy, decadent taste of Land O Lakes® 4 Cheese Italian Blend elevates the humble perfection of basic grilled cheese to a sandwich that makes lunchtime feel like something special. This vibrant grilled cheese sandwich is full of fresh flavors making it the perfect way to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Month.

You can also celebrate by pinning! Throughout April through May 1st, Land O’ Lakes will donate $1 to Feeding America every time someone pins or repins a Land O’ Lakes recipe on Pinterest.
