Hello all and happy Saturday! Hope your week has been treating you well and that you aren’t snowed in still. We are finally starting to thaw out a bit here in New Jersey. As I’m sure you’ve experienced yourself or seen all over the news, Facebook, etc., we’ve had a little snow. I had the “pleasure” of working a full 24 hours straight in the large snow storm we had last week. Fun times! Honestly, I don’t really mind working in the snow. I would rather that than rain any day.
Snow provides some interesting challenges to emergency service workers, that’s for sure but it keeps things interesting. You get to use your 4 wheel drive, climb up icy steps and try to keep your balance while carrying 50 pounds of equipment and you get to play “dodge the pedestrians!” What fun! This one thought it was a great idea to walk smack in the middle of the road during a snow storm. I call her antics “job security.” Perhaps the side of the snow-covered road would be a safer option?
But 24 hours of working straight ended with a beautiful sunrise. That marked the end of a very looooong shift but it was also the first time I’d seen a sunrise in quite possibly years.
After the snow stopped falling on us for a second, schools finally opened for a day before the next wave of snow hit us. Thankfully that day was Valentine’s Day. Madelyn and her classmates got to celebrate with a class party. Molly was over the moon because she got to go too! I think she felt like a very big girl that day. When Molly finally goes to school, I have a feeling she won’t be the least bit apprehensive. She always tries to stay when I drop Maddy off.
Snow holding off for a while also meant we ventured out into the world and got to hang out with these guys!
The girls, Mommy and Daddy headed into Manhattan for an evening out. We went out to dinner where the girls chose breakfast for dinner and were treated to pancakes bigger than their heads. Even more surprising, the finished nearly all of them! Then we walked over to Madison Square Garden where we all sang, danced and clapped to our pals from Sesame Street. Good times were had by all.
Last, I recently discover a totally addictive and freaky show called Orphan Black. Have you seen it? We started watching it at work one day and I was hooked from episode one! It’s about clones but stay with me here and check it out. I didn’t think I would like it but it’s strange, wonderful and has so many interesting plot twists. It’s definitely a show to watch.
Hope your weekend holds fun things for you! Have a great week. As always, you’ll find a recap of what’s been going on around here.
Enjoy!

That had to be tough working in the snow, it was rough here in Brooklyn too! Looks like you all had a good time in the city! I’ve never seen or heard of Orphan Black, it must be on BBC America. Have to check it out.
It is on BBC America 🙂 So good!
Never heard of that Orphan Black, I will have to check it out!
You know – I admire what you all do. Wind/Rain/Snow/Hurricanes – emergency workers are at the ready – Thank You! I never heard of that show – I’m intrigued 🙂 Sounds like you guys had a great time in the city 🙂
Aww, thanks Aly 🙂 Fortunately I love my job! Otherwise working in all the insanity would really stink.
