I have a little secret to share with you today. Nothing earth shattering or big but would you believe that up until I made this Sweet & Smoky Tropical Fruit Salad recipe, I’ve never had papaya? Is that strange? I would see them in the store, I’ve seen papaya in baked goods and yet I’ve never picked one up and tried it. Until now.
Can I just tell you? If you’ve never tried papaya, you need to make that happen. Do not wait! If you’re a fan of melons like cantaloupe, you’ll definitely love papaya. Not to mention, I think this is such a beautiful fruit! That pinkish orange hue. Just gorgeous. After my first taste of the sweet flesh of this gorgeous piece of fruit, I was enamored.
I decided to use some of it to make this fruit salad. I paired the papaya with mangoes and strawberries. Then I whisked together a bit of honey, lime juice and just a touch of smoky chile powder. Sweet, tart and smoky, not at all spicy. This fruit salad hits all the right notes on the palate making it hard to stop eating it. It’s perfect as a summer snack or light dessert. Have a brunch? This would make a perfect addition to the menu. This fruit salad is summer produce perfection.
