Wellness shots have been all the rage lately but as usual, I’m late to the party. Recently I went to meet a girlfriend for lunch at a local vegan establishment. Lo and behold on their menu were fresh juice smoothies and, you guessed it … wellness shots.

I moseyed up to the counter and promptly ordered their lemon ginger shot. Holy cow! I was surprised both pleasantly and unpleasantly all the same time in that moment. Tart lemon, spicy ginger and they topped theirs with both turmeric and cayenne pepper. Yowza!

It was tart, spicy and for just a few seconds I thought to myself, “Why did I just do that?” BUT I have to say that shortly after I felt like a million bucks! Okay, okay … I’m not saying that this shot was some sort of magic that all of a sudden made everything that ails me go away instantaneously. What I am saying though is that I felt energized, awake and just good.

Good enough to make me want to make my own at home and do a shot of that delightfully tart and spicy concoction every morning. This Spicy Lemon Ginger Wellness Shot is a no-joke, crazy INVIGORATING way to start your day!

So let’s talk about the real benefits of this simple shot, shall we? These are some simple yet truly amazing ingredients. I added cinnamon to my version too.

GINGER: anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antihistamine, supports digestive health

LEMON: boosts immunity, lemon is an alkaline that can help balance the pH of the body, detoxifying

TURMERIC: anti-inflammatory, decreases muscle soreness, detoxifies the liver, neutralizes free radicals

Spicy Lemon Ginger Wellness Shot

Yield: 5-7 servings

1 ounce

Spicy Lemon Ginger Wellness Shot

This spicy little lemon ginger wellness shot is packed with beneficial ingredients to get you going and keep you healthy!

Ingredients

  • 6 large lemons
  • 6 inch piece of fresh ginger root, peeled
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric, per shot
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, per shot
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, per shot

Instructions

  1. NOTE: This will make 5-7 shots. Store lemon mixture in refrigerator. Top with spices once ready to serve.
  2. If you have a juicer, juice lemons and ginger. Alternately, manually squeeze the juice from lemons through a fine strainer into a clean glass jar. Finely grate ginger root into jar. Shake and refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. Shake well then pour 1 ounce lemon mixture into a shot glass. Top with turmeric, cinnamon and cayenne. Give a little stir and down the hatch!
