It’s a classic scene. A large ice-cold glass of milk in hand and your sweet tooth craving something to go along with it. You pull out that bag of Oreos. Maybe you’re a dipper, a twister or maybe you eat them straight up. However you eat your Oreos, they’re the perfect thing to go with that frosty glass of milk. But what else can Oreos be a part of? Just about anything, I say. They make a welcome addition to so many snacks and desserts. Oreo cheesecake, Oreo ice cream, mini Oreos tossed in a trail mix! These little cookies are so tasty you’ll want to put them in everything.

With Halloween right around the corner, I’m buying up the limited edition Halloween Oreos. Have you seen them? They’re too cute! They have the same great flavor of the classic Oreos you’ve grown up with but they’ve got their Halloween costume on with orange filling and 5 different designs on the cookies like a ghost, bats, a witch and more. Once I saw them on the shelves I knew I wanted to make a Halloween-themed sweet with them.

As you know Maddy is always in the kitchen with me so we decided to make something that she could help out with. We chopped up some of those fantastic Halloween Oreos and tossed them in some melted marshmallows with puffed rice cereal. Then we drizzled a little melted white chocolate on top and dressed them up with some black and orange sprinkles. Viola! Orea Treat Bars were born. These won’t last long, trust me. They didn’t in our house. If you can’t control yourself and need to get them out of the house before you devour nearly the whole batch like I did, you can wrap them up in cellophane bags with some festive ribbons. They make wonderful treats for those trick-or-treaters that will surely show up at your door. And once you’ve eaten or gifted all your Oreo treat bars away, I have some goodies for you too!

Kitchen PLAY is giving away two OREO Halloween prize packs filled with goodies like: a spider spatula and apron, pumpkin cupcake holders, a Halloween serving dish, Halloween sprinkles and of course, Halloween OREOs. To enter, simply recreate any OREO dessert from this Kitchen PLAY event, or come up with your own. Post about it on your site and provide a link to that post in the comments on this Kitchen PLAY page.
Multiple entries are allowed, as long as a separate OREO dessert post is created for each entry. Deadline is midnight ET on November 5. This sweepstakes will also take place at Thanksgiving and the holidays, so the earlier you enter, the more chances to win! Full sweepstakes guidelines can be found at Kitchen PLAY. I can’t wait to see how you’ll play up dessert with OREO!
Enjoy!

Brown Butter Oreo Treat Bars

Festive Halloween OREO cookies combines with marshmallows, puffed rice cereal drizzled with a little white chocolate and scattered with sprinkles for a fun holiday treat!

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 (10.5 oz) bag of mini marshmallows
  • 5 cups puffed rice cereal
  • 15 Halloween OREO cookies
  • 3 ounces white chocolate
  • black and orange sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9x13 inch glass dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue cooking the butter until it begins to brown and smell nutty being careful not to burn the butter.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and add the marshmallows. Stir until smooth. Remove from heat.
  4. Gently stir in the rice cereal and OREO cookies.
  5. Scrap into the prepared dish and press down evenly into the dish.
  6. Place the white chocolate in a microwave safe dish. Melt in 30 second increments, stirring after each cycle, until melted.
  7. Drizzle the white chocolate over the top of the treat bars. While still warm and wet, scatter the sprinkles over the top. Allow the treat bars to cool completely and the chocolate to set.
  8. Cut into squares and serve.
  9. Enjoy!

These are so cute and festive! I don’t think I’ve ever had a brown butter rice krispie treat, but it sounds wonderful and now I want it. Thanks for the inspiration!

These are so cute, Kate! Truth: I bought TWO bags of those festive holiday Oreos. And we ate them before I could make anything with them. Fully aware the pair of us are ridiculous!

Thanks Amber! Funny you should mention buying multiple bags of Oreos for the project. I did the very same thing and ended up having to replenish so that I could then complete the project 😉 They’re addictively good, as all Oreos truly are. And these treat bars are dangerous! Much like I imagine your brownies surely were.
