I’m all for a great night out. I love any occasion to shed my normal uniform of jeans and t-shirts stained with food, paint, glue and whatever other stickiness may adhere to me from a day with my girls. So when I get a girls night out I love dressing up and perhaps donning a sexy pair of heels. What I don’t love? I don’t love music so loud that I have to scream to have a conversation or waiting in a sea of people 4 or 5 deep to try to get a drink. So why not just skip it?
Times like these call for a girls night in! It doesn’t mean I can’t still get all dolled up . Cinco de Mayo is coming so I know my girlfriends and I will want to celebrate. When it comes to entertaining there are a few things that are always a must. Good friends, good music (at a volume where you can actually have an adult conversation that doesn’t involve saying “Huh? What?!?” every few minutes) and of course, great cocktails like this Sauza Blue Strawberry Basil Margarita!
When it comes to party planning, I turn to Pinterest. Whether you’re planning a kids party or a get together for adults, there are SO many great party planning ideas out there! For our Cinco de Mayo girls night in we’ll be lighting some paper lanterns strung outside on the deck. I’m working on a cute, festive tablescape with candles and flowers where we’ll have a light dinner and good conversation. My girl friends and I usually like to keep it fun, perhaps with an edge of competition. Games are a great way to get everyone talking some smack and having a good time.
But for the ultimate Cinco de Mayo girls night in, it’s all about the food and drink for me. Good snack-y foods are a must for shoveling into your mouth between smack-talking. A favorite is Maple Bacon Caramel Corn with Pecans but at our next together I’m going to see how they like Potato Chip Pretzel Caramel Corn, just to change it up a bit. For a little Latin flair, we also like to munch on something handheld like Chicken Chorizo Empanadas.
But all good food, needs good drink and our favorite beverage for ladies night are definitely margaritas!! Margaritas just scream party. They’re frosty, festive and the flavor possibilities are endless. Personally, I am a strawberry margarita girl. They’re just so refreshing and summery. The really warm months may not be here just yet but they’re right around the corner.
I really find that adding herbs with fruit adds a level of sophistication and a whole new interesting, flavor-enhancing experience. My favorite herb to pair with fruit is definitely basil. No matter how I use it, it elevates the drink, dessert or meal. Each fruit I pair it with just transforms into something oh so very special. Lemons? Blackberries? Watermelon? Oh yes!! And of course, strawberries.
Strawberries love basil! They’re natural partners. So I decided to dress up my traditional strawberry margarita for ladies night in. This frosty Sauza Blue Strawberry Basil Margarita is filled with bright, juicy red strawberries, fresh basil and smooth Sauza Blue. These margaritas go down just way too easy! Consider yourself warned that you’re in for a refreshingly good time.
And when it comes to mixing up margaritas, what’s the best way? Make it with the lifeguard! He’s equally talented in the saving of lives and the ways of love. And best of all? He’s ready to pour you a Sauza-rita, and listen as you pour out your feelings. This perfect man is perfectly prepared to help make your ladies night unforgettably fun – with Sauza Blue, of course.
