Happy Saturday! Man, this post almost didn’t happen. As I type this it is very late on Friday night and I’m at work desperately trying to finish this up so that it’s ready for the morning. What a week! This little blogger has had a very busy week when it comes to Babbles projects and it’s been a bit difficult to keep up. I’ve been working on something that I can’t wait to tell you all about but you’ll have to wait a bit longer. But when the time comes, there will be fun for everyone and prizes too! Speaking of fun, today we’ll be celebrating my dad‘s birthday! Definitely excited for that and I’m looking forward a big family dinner and of course, there will be cake. German Chocolate Cake, which happens to be my dad’s favorite and that works out really well for me because it happens to be my favorite to. Win! Win!
This week I was also happy to have found a stash of blood oranges! I always have the toughest time finding them so when I stumbled across these little garnet beauties I scooped a bunch of them right up without hesitation. So I’m looking forward to sharing that creation with you later this month although, if you like Food Babbles on Facebook you already got the sneak peek.
Murphy is growing in leaps and bounds. He gained 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks. Murphy was to the vet this week and I’m happy to report he left with a clean bill of health! No more worms and no more parasites. And oh my goodness, he’s just so wonderful! He’s such a good dog and so smart. Already he will come when called and he knows how to sit. He’s still not so good at “stay” but we’re working on it. He is such a good passenger and just hangs out on a drive. Baths he’s good about also. He sits there and lets me get him all bubbly but I’m thinking he doesn’t really love the process. It’s more like he just tolerates getting clean. I’ll take it! As long as I don’t have to wrestle him, I’m happy.
Oh and tomorrow Murphy’s getting to babysit Grandma as Mike and I take a day trip to Atlantic City with my friend Mike and his wife. So excited for that! Tomorrow starts Restaurant Week down there with lots of incredible food to try at dirt cheap prices. Then perhaps there will be a little gambling after. Would be nice if we could win our dinner money back!
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend! As always, here’s what you may have missed this week on Food Babbles and a few things that I bookmarked too.
Enjoy!

White Cake with Lemon Raspberry Filling
and the most popular post this week was…
Babbles Bookmarks:
Wow Butter & Jelly Bars from Jelly Toast: Having a child with a SEVERE peanut allergy, I am all about peanut butter alternatives. So I’m all over Wow Butter. It seriously tastes like peanut butter. I’m kind of a peanut butter addict and may or may not have a secret stash in my locker at work just to get my fix since I have a completely peanut-free home. Emily has a child with a peanut allergy too and she has totally rocked this recipe! These Wow Butter & Jelly bars are going to be a huge hit in my house, especially with Mike who happens to eat SunButter (another PB alternative) & jelly like it’s going out of style.
Tomato Mozzarella Egg White Omelet from Skinnytaste: Vibrant, fresh ingredients make this something I’ve already made twice for breakfast this week. Simple and healthy, this omelet makes a weekday breakfast feel like so much more.
Amaretti Biscuits from Sugar & Snapshots: Simple, crisp little almond cookies that I must make. I love finding new ways to use almond paste and this recipe is perfect for just that. Not to mention, the photography is gorgeous! This is a “new to me” blog and I’m really enjoying all the fabulous recipes.

I can’t wait to see the recipe for the blood orange dessert you made! I bought a few a week it so ago and just ended up eating them before making anything special with them. I couldn’t resist! I so hope you love the Wow Butter and Jelly bars as much as I did. Oh, I ended up freezing some of mine and they taste amazing straight out if the freezer. I need to make a wow butter and chocolate bar cookie now. That would taste like a frozen candy bar, yum…
What a great weekend post!!
Totally freezing some Wow Butter & Jelly bars! That sounds awesome! I’m making them later this week. I can’t wait! And blood oranges are definitely hard to resist, in any form.
I have such a hard time finding blood oranges! That wet puppy couldn´t be cuter Kate!
Me too, Paula! That’s why I was so thrilled when I found some. I never see them or Meyer lemons in my area. Once in a blue moon and if I do, I scoop up the whole lot of them if it’s within reason
I also can’t wait for the blood orange recipe, just bought a bunch yesterday! Sounds like a feast and I also really love German Chocolate cake. YUM! Have a wonderful time in Atlantic City, sounds like you have been burning the candle at both ends and need a break. That little Murphy is too cute and love that forlorn face sitting in the tub, So cute!!
Thanks Suzanne! We had such a nice time. A much needed break from everything. Oh and I just couldn’t resist that picture of Murphy in the bathtub. He’s such a good boy but you can tell he’s really just tolerating getting clean and not really enjoying the experience
Blood oranges! Love them, but I always make such a huge mess when I have them. Murphy is just adorable. What a great pup!
They definitely are messy but SO good! And Murphy really is a great dog. We lucked out with him. He’s wonderful!
AH that dog is TOO stinking cute! Major puppy envy over here right now. And I second any blood orange love- they sure are a help getting through this super-dreary part of winter.
Blood oranges are little ray of sunshine, aren’t they? And thanks!! Murphy is really awesome! We’re totally in love with him.
I like Murphy, he is a very nice looking dog.
Still all this German chocolate cake is just a mystery to me. Maybe I have to find out about it.
I should have checked back on your comment last time when I commented on your recipe. Now I know.
Happy to have helped!
Thank you Chris! Murphy really is a sweetheart. And hope someday you try a German chocolate cake. They’re just wonderful, in my opinion.
